A project that’s fresh out of the oven
Picture this: the smell of warm cookies drifting from the oven. That first bite into a soft, gooey center. Suddenly, you’re 8 years old again. That’s the feeling we wanted to recreate when building Bernice Bakery’s new website.
Just around the corner from our office in Saint-Henri, Bernice isn’t just a sweet stop. It’s a place where every cookie tells a story, and every cake dares to outshine your mom’s birthday classic (but hey, let’s keep that between us). Bernice doesn’t just satisfy cravings. It offers comfort. It feeds the soul.

The order
When Carlos, one of the two co-founders, reached out to us about redesigning their e-commerce platform, we didn’t hesitate. We rolled up our sleeves and got to work. The mission: bake up a new website that does justice to their desserts. One that could scale across Canada while keeping the cozy charm of a neighbourhood counter.
Dorian, who led the project, summed it up best:
“This one was a chance to go all out: animations, visuals, identity… We wanted something that felt rich, generous, like an amazing dessert that’s almost too good to share (almost).”

The ingredients
This was no pre-made mix. We followed a house recipe, and every step was intentional. We started with the brand’s existing visuals (illustrations, colour palette, and vibe) and gave them a fresh twist: a new typeface, a bolder accent colour, and custom assets designed to make you hungry. Then came a full-on product photoshoot, because let’s be real: desserts are a visual experience. From there, Dorian whipped up a design that’s fun, clean, and a little indulgent. The development side was handled by Fred, who cooked it all to perfection on Shopify. Smooth, seamless, and ready to scale.
A website that breaks the cookie cutter mold
The result? A website that looks good enough to eat. And we’re not the only ones saying so. Since launch, Bernice’s new platform was nominated for an E-commerce Awwward, earning top marks for originality, design, and usability. The standout animations? Icing on the cake.
Better yet, it worked. The site drove a 25% increase in sales, and customer feedback has been as sweet as their chocolate chip cookies.

A collaboration that stuck
But beyond the website itself, it’s the partnership with Carlos and Jami that really stuck with us. Easy, open, and always full of good ideas. Today, that relationship continues to grow. We’re now designing their shipping boxes and handling their email marketing, with all the same care (and appetite) as the website. Because yes, a great dessert matters. But a great collaboration? That’s the real treat.
